  1. Some of the myths go way, way, way back. They must be very fundamental to human psyche. The Greek plays are worth reading too. Oedipus Tyrannus is one of my favourites. The comedies are fun. But I have to admit, sobbing through Oedipus Tyrannus and Medea is very cathartic! But back to the sheep... I love the Nietzsche quote which is used in Baldur's Gate 1. It seems very apt there because of the story line but it's not exactly what Nietzsche meant. I still love it in and out of the game though. “He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster . . . when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
  2. 'Pirating' is a euphemism for theft and the problem with euphemisms is that people don't always understand what is meant... I don't think everyone goes into the situation with eyes wide open. I used to help on a certain photo site help desk a very very very long time ago before it grew all big and important. A lot of members helped there - it was something one did. New members sometimes violated rules without realising - quite often because they didn't know how the site functioned. We'd see an account with public adult photos simply because people didn't know how to make content private and they'd arrive with everything hanging out so to speak; we'd be trying to sort it out with some incredibly naive user who did hunt and peck on the keyboard because they couldn't type... I used to wonder why they didn't practise with a photo of something innocuous first but no - they went in with a splash and soon found the water a lot deeper than they expected and we were very soon diving in to save them or at least throw them a life belt... There were people there too who posted photos they'd found on the web and even on the site and honestly some didn't realise that you were supposed to post photos you'd taken not something you'd found and liked. Members got really angry and nasty with them because of the 'theft' and in some cases it was really unfair because what had been done had been done in all innocence. Of course, the law - anywhere - isn't very good at being kind where ignorance is concerned...

    Piracy

BG3 presumably? BG1 and 2 *are* old even by my standards... re piracy - It might be quite difficult for some people to realise it's a crime. It might not 'feel' like it. I know of someone who bought a house; it was an old and historically interesting house and it was 'protected'. They proceeded to whip out the kitchen and bathrooms, put in different windows and a huge patio and they dug up the extensive gardens. Eventually the authorities caught up with them and the cost of putting the house back to its original state was too much for them - they had to sell. The house wasn't theirs to do with as they pleased but they hadn't realised that. They weren't bad people - it never dawned on them what buying a house like that really meant. The software or video or book or knitting pattern or even plant that you think you own, isn't really completely yours either and for some people, the difference between that and their new jeans is difficult to understand... It needs either more education or a different way of handling the issue. I know which I prefer.
  4. I've just spotted this. It looks like fun. So, The Baldur's Gate Scissors* - it cuts everyone's hair as they go through the Gate leaving all of them bald. At which point they are attacked by an insect plague which lands on their heads. The person with the fewest bites wins a special Athkatla Outback Helmet** which offers protection from insect plagues and the sun. * Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 only ** +1 dexterity, protection from insect plague, THACO +1, +2 AC bonus, +4 save vs death.
  5. Out: A copy of The Last Continent by Terry Pratchett. Yippee - it's a first edition hard back copy signed by Pratchett himself. I'm extremely pleased with this as I can't find my copy. In: A jar of yeast extract... take your pick which one. It's magic and will be whichever variety you wish. There's also hot toast if you need it.
  6. 1. I'd like to go back to 2014 and pick up a certain small collie puppy before the monsters who bought her had the chance to abuse her. And if I'm allowed another trip... 2. I'd like to see the Library of Alexandria (before it was burnt of course). There are a few books it would be wonderful to have been able to read.
  7. (re-reading) Monstrous Regiment - Pratchett I really ought to re-read the Disc World stories in order... but instead, I just pick one off the shelf at random...
  8. Those can be fun when you all sit around explaining who you think did it and why and then play the actual solution! I have seen some of the early Murder in Paradise a very long time ago, when I watched TV - it was a strange little beast that one... We're on Season 2 of Star Trek The Next Generation. Dr Crusher has gone for a bit - thankfully.* *No, I'm not sure why I'm watching TNG again either... except occasionally we watch the entire Star Trek franchise and it wouldn't be 'right' to skip this one... (we do skip episodes though...)
  9. I'm all Sibelius at the moment. I don't really like bits of music taken out of context but the Intermezzo from the Karelia Suite is very catchy. And it's short. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6QRG0Soynk This is quite a nice recording though I have to say I prefer my CDs for this...
  10. Nice one! Very! It captures the you are what you decide you want to be thing - that you don't have to be what you've been made into. I like that!
  11. Bit late I know but captcha has been really tiresome and I decided to do life things instead of going to that place which is I hate captcha! However, I was curious about that one as I remember there was one with the same title many many many years ago... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_GCXur2Ehw Look at the hair! Look at the clothes... what were they thinking... edit... Tremeloes - Silence is Golden....
  12. The Shadow of the Mine - Huw Beynon and Ray Hudson. Very interesting read. I read Beynon's Working for Ford when I was young and was seriously impressed. This is another fascinating study - this time on the decline of the coal industry and the end of industrial Britain.
  13. Icewind Dale 1 - Trials of the Luremaster. I'm not sure if I played this when it first came out. The arrival place is vaguely familiar but after that there's a blank. It fits very awkwardly into the game so actually when to do the quest was tricky for me so tricky that first time through, I forgot to do it and then couldn't see how I could do it. This means that for this play through I made a new party so I used the Icewind Dale NPC Package. I'm seriously impressed. All the added characters are interesting and I like them - they have real personalities. Voice acting is good too. So this is proving to be a really fun experience. The story is really interesting and a bit different. I really miss these old isometric games - these ones aren't turn based either - I'm not keen on that awful imposed stop. I'm not sure how far through I am in Trials but it has been so much fun that I think I might replay IWD with this party...
  14. Out: A big pile of weeds and a very large crop of sweet corn (corn on the cob). Eat them quickly. Sweetcorn tastes much better fresh from the garden. In: A recording of the eBay song by "Weird Al" Yankovic and a Smurf TV tray.
  15. A: Maybe no one matches up yet? Maybe the time hasn't arrived yet? Maybe the George in another parallel universe has but not the one in this one. Or maybe another alternate George in another parallel universe is having an even worse time. If the theory of parallel universes is right then the probability is that this isn't the worst universe you could be living in... Sadly... Q: Why does one of our radio controlled weather stations think this is November 15th?* Because we're old I went on line to check... and it isn't November 15th...
  16. Efficiency is just intelligent laziness really. IceWind Dale 2
  17. Agreed! Free Wishing Well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIotFhpGmc0

    Ban for Fun

Ah ha. George you are banned for accusing Nexus of a calculation error when they aren't at fault... Look at what it says at the top: "Forum Games Forum games can be played here. Note: Posts in this forum do not increase your post count." Now, quite clearly Nexus doesn't want games to add to the post count. And however erroneous we might think that futile hope that the rest of the forum might be worth counting the posts of, we really do have to respect their views - at least publicly What you do in the privacy of your own home is really beyond Nexus's scope though I fear it is not beyond the wishes of a certain software house whose software I don't use... Banned until you acknowledge the error of your ways...
  19. Maybe we're all AI... No, on second thoughts - we don't come out with enough nonsense for that...
  20. Yes, three hours without a biscuit is hard work... I'm impressed you can sit still that long. I fidget after three minutes... I spent this morning searching through our collie's toys trying to find a fluffy orange ball called Orangey (you try being original when your dog has three boxes of toys)... We (the little collie and I) unearthed several toys we've forgotten the names of. My husband suggests we re-name them and keep a rogues gallery... I'm pretty sure our little girl knows what the names are... @Drakefell01 - There's a theory that you need a mixture of good and bad experiences so that you can appreciate the happiness. Maybe that works for you? I think it's daft. I'd rather have all happiness...

    Ban for Fun

Banned for implying that we don't all know the rules off by heart. Of course we do. We busily recite them every evening before retiring to bed. @Pagafyr Banned for a mass ban. Mass bans are frowned upon at the best of times but the Banned Band doesn't mass ban. Ever. @Drakefell01 - George you are sooo banned for banning a new person before they even manage to get their feet under the table. To remind you all of the rules... you are now all banned until the next time you post. Post before that and you know what happens... @drsemmel - Welcome! Very!
  22. Out: An apple crumble and some fromage frais in a blue and white striped china bowl. The MVM has developed a mischievous streak. In: A really nice artist's paintbrush with a real wooden handle.
  23. A: They are both glittery. Also, you can make jewellery with both of them. You can even make jewellery with both of them in one piece. Q: Why do wolves howl at the moon?
  24. Do you mean that metaphorically or literally?
  25. O Fortuna (Carmina Burana - Carl Orff) - André Rieu. There are loads of versions and a lot don't go past the very well known O Fortuna. However, this version might not be the best but it's one of the most interesting. The costumes alone should have a place in history. I'm always disappointed that the camera never zooms in on the pianist on the left who is wearing an amazing lemon coloured gown... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJC-_j3SnXk
