[WIP] Weapon Addition and Replacement Suite (WARS)
Mavkiel replied to antistar's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
From what I understand, I thought those bushfires are rather spread out? Like the map you linked, shows them fairly far apart if you zoom in. It still is terrible, and folks really should be held to account for starting fires. (Again, going from memory, at least 50% of them are man made). Anyhow I wish you luck, and don't let the drop bears ambush you if you need to evac to the dirty lake!- 2744 replies

Skyrim Special Editon Crashing on Start-up
Mavkiel replied to Sixxo137946825's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim SE
Here is a test, clean out your skse plugin folder, if you can launch skse then perhaps something didn't update right. It's easy to lose track of some skse dependent mods if your not careful. For example, I forgot caco is skse dependent and it causes ctd with latest patch. thanks so much for responding! I can't seem to find the plugin folder but does the message "Can't find Skyrim.exe" tell you anything? They're on the same drive so it should be fine, right? Sorry I don't know too much about this haha Sounds like a bad install of skse. Redownload it, empty the contents into the same folder that has Skyrim.exe in it. Depending on the drive you installed steam in it could be something like. C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition (I didn't install in the default location) -

Use skse? Have old mods dependent on skse? Recent update could be screwing things. -
It really can be anything. Are you running mods? Are you using Skse? If running mods, a ghetto way of trying to isolate the problem is turn off half your mods, try it again. If problem goes away, activate half your mods and try again. Keep activating/deactiving mods to you isolate the exact mod causing the issue. -- Note: It is not advisable to deactivate mods during a playthrough, so basically use this method to find the issue and restart
-
Skse has a weird issue for me now, in that sometimes skyrim will go to (running) status in steam, then just quit. What makes this extra weird, is that sometimes it also runs fine. Beginning to think that perhaps I have an old skse dependent mod I need to dig out.

Find a person sleeping and drain them dry. If you have the right perk points you can sneak drain people. edit: By drain them dry, I mean activate them with the E key.

It's rather silly. You don't hear much about the recent knife attack in California, that killed 3 or 4 people. Anyhow I sort of see it like this Ban guns - they use knives Ban knives - They use bombs Ban bombs -(by making it harder to get materials) - then they get trucks Ban Trucks - Good luck with that one. In summery, bad people will find ways of doing bad things. If we have to point a finger at anyone (besides the idiots that commit the acts), I'd suggest the media is to blame. They get folks riled up and then they go right over the edge.

How to do overwrite individual files: ... Neat, I wondered if those buttons would do it. So yeah vortex is better all the way around then. Seems much less annoying to use then the old nmm one file at a time popups.
-
I swapped out from nmm which I loved to vortex. It takes some getting used it seems like the stronger of the two tools. Only thing I miss from nmm was the ability to single out files I want to overwrite or not. Perhaps there is a setting for that, but its not a big enough issue to look up.

Fallout 76 brought to fallout 4?
Mavkiel replied to SzassTamofThay's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Speaking for myself it's because if the project takes off you can kiss single player games goodbye. Take a look at gtaV. They release the multiplayer function, and micro-transactions. They make tons of money off that and never release single player content for gtaV. But lets set aside various companies like rockstar and EA. Take a hard look at the shop in fallout 4. They release single weapon dlc for a 3-5 dollars a pop. Now look at fallout 76's market. 4 bucks for a *lamp*. I shudder to think what they will try in fallout 5 if they get away with this. -
Fallout 76 brought to fallout 4?
Mavkiel replied to SzassTamofThay's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I'd like the leveling system put into fallout 4. It just strikes me as more interesting then we currently have.. hmm what else... engine related stuff is a non starter... Perhaps some of the armors? Saw like a medic armor that looked kinda nice. The enemies in 76 seem downright inferior to fallout 4. Seems like scorched this or scorched that. *disclaimer* Not suggesting ripping assets out of 76, but creating things from scratch based on the idea of 76. -
Only the superficial stuff looked interesting for me. new leveling mechanics, the base building.. But those aren't the reasons I play fallout type games. I believe I said this in another thread but, I will state it again. It's like they learned all the wrong lessons from fallout 4. They saw how popular base building was, and didn't ask "why?". They saw people bitching about lackluster quests, and again they didn't ask "why?". The why is probably the most important question they could have asked. Base building being popular because the cities were terribly small and unremarkable. People complained about the quests, because for the most part they were god awful. Hell, I can't think of a single quest in fallout 4 that had an emotional impact. Compare it to fallout 3, nuking megaton or Amata turning you away from the vault.
-
Sad thing is I like some of the superficial features of fallout 76. Basically the improved lighting and perk cards. (cards strike me as more entertaining then what we have now)

Typical fallout audience are rpg players. Really, the shooting mechanics tend to be fairly horrible. Each iteration of fallout improves the combat mechanics, but it still wouldn't compete with say a rainbow siege game or any other dedicated shooter. New audience are survival game enthusiasts. Which is going to be a tough sell since there are more then a few of those out there, with fairly good mechanics. Rust and Conan come to mind. (Not my cup of tea, which goes to show how likely I'm going to get 76) I keep getting the feeling that Beth misread the reaction of fallout 4. That they got a large group of folks together, and asked "what was your favorite aspect of the game?". The reaction of many myself included would be the city building. Why the answer could be misleading is, I didn't buy the game for that feature, nor would I have bought the game at all if I knew the quests sucked that bad.

Vault 76, What will make you give it a chance?
Mavkiel replied to Mavkiel's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Its probably what Todd meant by survival lite (everything about survival minus the sleep). Food.. I am guessing would be the same, only more annoying once you factor in rotting food. Unless rotten food is a gimmick, that only occurs if you're careless. Its really rather annoying, I am trying to be upbeat about this game. -

Mavkiel replied to Mavkiel's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
That sort of reminds me, I hated survival setup in fallout 4. Mainly in regards to how often the prompts to eat/drink/sleep came up... which if they pulled the same sort of setup in 76 I'd have another hard pass on the game. -
Vault 76, What will make you give it a chance?
Mavkiel replied to Mavkiel's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Oh god I forgot about that, search bar issue. Thanks for reminding me of that horror. To be fair, I avoided their modding site like the plague. Still miffed that they closed down their old forums for the newer abomination. Right now, if fallout 76 released, I doubt I'd buy it. More tempted to try various other games. Battletech (Yeah, I loath one of the devs, but supposedly its a solid game) vampyr pillars of eternity 2 (First one I thought the story was neat, but I hated the combat) various warhammer 2 dlc (Frankly playing as a squig herder sounds like more fun then being dependent on randoms on a server) To try and keep the spirit of optimism for 76 alive or at least on life support for me.. I will say that the graphics do look nice, monsters/weapons etc. It'd be interesting to see what sort of dlc they eventually make for the game. Best case for me, is some sort of shared city, and them eventually adding in single player or group by invite only areas. For those familiar with it, think of strongholds in star wars the old republic. -
Vault 76, What will make you give it a chance?
Mavkiel replied to Mavkiel's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I keep waffling between wanting to try it and not. The more they try to defend the new quest system though the less inclined to try it I am. Sure some of the environmental quests in fallout 4 were neat, but they all were similar. Find holotape, hear sob story, find everyone dead. Not sure you can base an actual game around that. -
Ok, I know its very easy to go negative on vault 76. Lets try and find the bare minimum of features needed for us to try it. - Private servers (Yes, they promised it, but until they put it in darned if I will purchase the game) - More information on how pvp is handled. I don't want to deal with griefers. - Is there text chat? If they are making folks use mic's its a huge turn off for me. I don't want to listen to folks brag about their wang size, or listen to folks with accents impossible to understand. (Basically asking for standard mmo chat controls) - Information about how modifiable the game is. I don't want to be forced into using their marketplace. Those are my main issues, I can deal with the lack of npcs, provided they actually follow through with decent holo-tape quests. A far smaller concern is also naming conventions. I really don't want to see lots of Preston Garvey's in my game. That garbage gives my immersion a good defenestration .
-
To be fair, some of the things in fallout 76 sound nice. Like the world not being anchored to your character. Or the lighting and textures.
-
The thing is, everything you listed, except the settlement existed since fallout 3. Sure, those have dated graphics, but it wasn't so bad back then. As for settlement mode, whats the point of having an epic city if its populated with cardboard cutouts? None of the npcs have personality. Before anyone suggests that's why they cut them out of 76, consider the interesting npc mod. It adds in slews of unique voiced npcs that are actually fun to encounter. So trying to look at it objectively as to what was gained. Better shooting mechanics, pretty graphics, more stable engine. Do any of those sound critical to a rpg? Sure they can help, but it's not a deal breaker to most players. *shrugs* It just seems like they are throwing their core audience away to compete with the latest co-op loot and shoot. After typing all this out, I realized my same points on contention with fallout 4 also hold true with 76.
-
I don't buy it. Why would they want a highly profitable franchise to die? Far more likely is that they were shocked with the success of fallout shelter, saw what EA was getting away with and decided to jump on in. Alternatively, this fallout 76 could very well be an sub version of fallout 4. I recall an interview where they said they always try to put multiplayer in their test versions. (So that theory would be, they got it to work, but had to play with the engine to such an extent that it'd preclude a normal fallout release) Or.. they just decided to see if they can rush out a fallout game, while putting the real talent to work on starfield. (They could be banking on the fallout name luring in suckers, much like the new star wars films.) edit: All that being said, I am in complete agreement about fallout 4 being flat out terrible. To date, I don't think I bothered to finish even the main quest. The side quests tend to be fairly terrible as well.

Mods will be allowed on Fallout 76
Mavkiel replied to THEvaledgamer's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
That basically mirrors my thoughts. They took every complaint and decided just flip the game board and walk away.. Or more like flip the game board then mug the other player with micro dlc.
