Pretty much this. I've been on the main site twice in the past year, both times was because I forgot to add games I was actively modding to my favorites list. I've been using mostly bookmarked game pages for years(to maintain search parameters), and even the bookmarking is more basic now since you can save(mostly) your desired parameters/exclusions/etc. directly in your profile.

For what it's worth, with the new search hitting / and actually clicking the bar do the same thing. Both bring up the big search window. You should still be able to click once on the search bar and just start typing. You get the predictive fills as you type one letter at a time like before. The only real difference in this instance is by default it gives you search results for several site categories at once, but you can change the default to whichever tab from that search window you want.
-
The new icons are distinct from each other and take 1/10th the screen space. You shouldn't need to hover at all.

I was messing around with vortex earlier, and I found myself wishing we could effectively create our own color scheme for the website just like we can with the modding platform. Regardless of how the Nexus team feels about the new layout, such a move would go a long way to regaining at least some measure of goodwill. In all the years I've been using this site, I've barely even looked at the forums until this disaster and watched it grow progressively worse. Congratulations, you've managed to streisand your own disaster.

I wish I could say it's not often I see someone fight this hard to win the Guinness world record for mental gymnastics when they aren't even getting paid for it.

It's because the "all" tab is the default. You need to go to the search preferences to change it.
-
Hit ctrl+f5 to do a hard refresh of the tab you are trying to search from, then check to make sure the "mods" button is the one highlighted when you start typing.
-
Must have missed it last time I checked the preferences page, but that's good to know. Now if only the "Default Search View" option on that same preferences page was functional, because right now all 3 options "big tiles", "small tiles" and "list view" all give the same big tiles.
-
Regardless of what page you are on, you get search results from the "all" tab. The whole point was the "mods" tab should be the default so you aren't getting a bunch of useless information cluttering the search page like other games, usernames, screenshots, etc. Ideally we would be able to pick whichever tab we wanted to use as the default, but having the default always be giving you absolutely everything is grossly unnecessary and likely information overload for a lot of people.
-
I think a lot of people would be far less annoyed at the new search window if your current game button was the default. Being bombarded with irrelevant information feels awful.
-
Hoping for some way to salvage this mess since none of the old ones work anywhere but the individual mod pages.
-
As if that matters, since your attempts at controlling the narrative are rather transparent. A lot of us have seen this whole song and dance multiple times before, and your almost complete lack of transparency is making everything so much worse.

Forgive me if I'm off-base here, but this reads like a pretty reductive outlook on the situation from someone as intelligent and capable as yourself. I'm a huge fan of your content. Nothing about this entire situation has been handled properly on their end. There has been plenty of constructive feedback both during the beta and post-launch that has been summarily ignored, making it feel as if the Nexus crew are sticking their heads in the sand while trudging forward. This doesn't even take into account the disingenuous nature of most of their communications on the subject. Eloquence should not be a pre-requisite for feedback to be taken seriously.

It would still be 90% of the subreddit if they hadn't started deleting posts and banning people.

I read the new post in its entirety. It was a lot of words to say in the most patronizing way possible "we hear you, we know you hate it, but we're doing it anyway". It didn't actually do anything whatsoever to alleviate the complaints people have had since the launch of the new layout. Do these people think we're stupid?

I would agree with this except for the homepage part. I can count the number of times I've used the homepage in the past year on one hand. It should be plastered right in the middle of your screen like those endorsement reminders.
-
Effectively, yes. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I've used greasemonkey and stylus in the past, but there's others.
-
You have to have something installed modifying the page because the previous post is what it looks like by default now no matter what browser you are using.
-
And they are qualifying anything that isn't hyper-sanitized as "abusive". The most innocuous things are disappearing. If people aren't allowed to complain, what are we even doing here? Why are some people acting as if they are above reproach?
-
Now they are simply deleting posts both here and on reddit calling them out while trying to pretend everything is fine. It's easy to pretend you have some sort of high-ground when you keep brushing under the carpet how pissed people are(and rightfully so). People expect some bumps in the road. That's normal for this sort of transition. What they don't expect is for the people in charge to conduct the whole mess like it's a high-school pet project and get all offended when people are unhappy. You are supposed to be business professionals. Start acting like it.
-
Every time they pull crap like this, they do irreparable damage to their image and their platform. The sheer arrogance and hubris is on a whole other level and will ultimately be their undoing.
-
This entire post would imply that their priorities are seriously messed up...that certainly tracks.
-
wtaf...you have got to be kidding me.

They should have just made it so we could customize the color scheme just like you can with vortex. I normally go out of my way to implement darkmodes even on sites that don't natively support them, and the mod search page is an eyesore. The design as-is flies right in the face of desirable color schemes-101. Super high-contrast setups are historically for people with vision impairments of some kind, and far from ideal for the general population. Anyone with any serious degree of experience in web design would know this.

Yeah, a site that doesn't give me a headache if I use it for too long is kind of a big deal.
